Junk Journal Work in Progress

Here’s my latest junk journal I’m working on. It’s not for anyone in particular yet and there isn’t a specific theme this time unlike my last two journal commissions I did. I’m adding things like removable envelopes for treasures stored inside and your hidden treasures. There’s also folders and extra compartments. I’m focusing on putting together images and quotes, photos, and more that I think work well together in their own unique and beautiful ways. I’m having a lot of fun working on this.

I’ve been trying new art techniques while making this journal. It’s all hand made and it’s giving me a nice chance to try some new things so it’s extra fun for me to create.

Here are just a few of my work in progress photos of my latest junk journal creation.

Like I say after every junk journal post, if you want me to make you one, leave a comment down below. Thank you and enjoy. xoxo

My Art Work in Passion Pinups Magazine, Spring Issue, 2019

The Spring Issue of Passion Pinups Is finally here and I’m so happy that I got featured again. You can see my name and what page number 28. wink wink. The first issue I did for Passion Pinups was the winter holiday issue last year which featured me on the front cover. I loved being on the front. If you haven’t seen my holiday winter issue last year definitely check it out here. And I’m excited to report that I have my photo in the centerfold of this issue.

I’ve become good friends with Chrissy( Kittens) Blake, the creator of Passion and I’ve told everyone on here how sweet she is. She know’s I’m an artist so you asked if I could send her a few photos of my pieces because she wanted to feature and  showcase my art which I thought that was so cool of her. I ended up sending her a print two of my new deck that I just created, images from my latest Victorian Steampunk jewelry/trinket box, and an oval creation that I loved making and have hanging in my vanity area That’s just a couple of the many reasons why I enjoy being part of Passion Pinups.

Here are some of my spring photos, you might recognize some of fascinators from my wonderful friend Debra Shirley because I used her floral  but they were perfect for spring. I hope you enjoy the little teaser.

“Peculiar” by Carlie Sorat

My latest finished art creation is titled “Peculiar” and is FOR SALE for: $55.00.  I got chose the name because this piece is based upon the Tim Burton film, “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.” When I came up with this title and sketched out all the components to this I was happily surprised because Tim Burton wasn’t an intentional influence on this creation. It was when I was looking through some of my supplies and found some special items, they reminded me of the movie. That’s when I came up with the idea to create a completely original piece influenced by “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.”

Mostly everything is homemade and my art pieces and creations are all One of a Kind!

Here are photos of the different angles of this Steampunk/Victorian and Oddities and Curiosities style project. I hope you enjoy them and my video showing you close up details of “Peculiar” and the story behind it. Thank you so much an enjoy!

*Oh and if you purchase “Peculiar before December tenth, you’ll get a special discount that I’m temporarily offering.

Midnight Masquerade Tarot Installation

I have always loved the art of tarot. I was taught tarot and how to use and respect the cards at the age of twelve and have been doing it ever since. My first deck which I still use to this day is the “Original Rider Waite” deck. I also started using the Osha Oracle cards a few years ago. They can be considered tarot but I love combining all the cards when I’m doing a big reading. The oracle cards deal more with emotions, your thinking, and more.

I’ve always wanted to create my own tarot deck. Whenever I would go to the bookstore, I’d spend forever in the New Age section where I saw dozens of tarot decks, almost to the point where I felt overwhelmed. I was amazed to see how many decks were out there.

Over the years I’ve bought or have been given different tarot decks to try but I never felt connected to any of them and would always go back to my Rider Waite deck. I’ve done many readings for my family members over the years and they’ve always suggested that I create my own deck. Finally I got up the nerve to create my own version of the tarot. I wanted to create my first deck as a type of installation where you see everything at once. I also wanted to make them into 3-D mixed media pieces instead of just drawing on them. I’m using illustrations, jewels, bronze, silver, and more. I decided to do that because it’s something different that I haven’t ever seen in any other deck. I’m starting with the “Major Arcana” cards which are cards like, “The Lovers,” the “Emperor,” “Death,” etc. Eventually I’ll create the “Minor Arcana” cards such as the “Ace of Swords,” but for now, I’m enjoying what I’m making and I can’t wait to show the finished project.

Here are a few of the cards I’ve already made. I know I’ll be making other deck themes in the future but my “Midnight Masquerade” theme is a great place to start. I hope you enjoy what I’ve done so far.

Gargoyle Tombstone Candy Jars

There’s a few reasons I chose gargoyles is because I LOVE GARGOYLES. I still have one I bought in Paris when I was 17. Since Halloween is approaching, I’ll definitely be able working on spooky style pieces, more than usual. I thought making my own  6 Oz. candy jars would be a great idea. They will be very versatile so if you don’t want to use them for candy, you can keep trinkets, bath salts, charms, herbs, and a lot more in them.

A lot of people who make crafts for Halloween use mostly pumpkins, black cats, skulls, etc. I thought it would be really unique to use gargoyles for my jar lids, especially since I’ve always felt connected to them. I’ve loved gargoyles since I was little and I was lucky to buy one at the Notre-Dame de Paris. That was the first time  I went there in 2000. I already have six orders for these cute Halloween candy jars. The best thing about them is that you don’t have to put candy in them if you don’t want them. They are reusable and you can put trinkets, spooky charms, affirmations, etc. You can definitely get creative with them with what you want to put inside.

I am going to start making these gargoyle halloween jars this week and will post pictures of some of the items I will be using to create this unique one of a kind jars. I’m giving you a sneak peek of my cute gargoyles and head stones. If you’re interested in purchasing one of these, leave a comment below.

Spooky Jewelry Box that I made for Jen Lightfoot

Have you guessed yet that Halloween is my favorite holiday? I am absolutely in love with this handmade spooky Halloween-themed box by Carlie Sorat! The attention to detail is insane with the unique silver spiderweb pendants, intricate overlapping of images and text, and the steampunk-style latch key.

I’m currently using this spooky box as a home for some of my jewelry, but it can be used to hold a number of different items (I almost used it to store art supplies!). Carlie’s gorgeous boxes are one-of-a-kind and each one is individually handmade. The colors are vibrant and I love the retro, occult, and vintage Halloween-vibe of this box.

I have a lot of necklaces so I’m always looking for practical (yet stylish!) ways to store them. I don’t really wear bracelets or rings very much and I don’t have pierced ears so no earrings for me, but I love necklaces — especially big statement necklaces. They get tangled easily though so I have multiple jewelry boxes. This one is great for those really large necklaces that don’t fit in my other jewelry boxes.

Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday! I was actually super scared of a lot of the costumes when I was a little kid — I even made my cousin take off part of his makeup at the dinner table. He had a realistic bleeding gash on his cheek and it grossed me out so much lol. As I got older though, especially in my early teens, I really started to love the idea of dressing up and watching scary movies on Halloween. There’s something about Halloween’s dark and creepy yet sometimes whimsical imagery that I’m really drawn to.

Of course I wanted a horror-themed box, but Carlie can make boxes with a ton of different themes! She is always taking commissions, and she is super sweet! For your own custom handmade box, contact Carlie at chaas66@aol.com

Carlie is also a pinup model and writes about pinup fashion with a rock n’ roll edge on her blog, bombshell2016.blog.

Jen
